Overview

The Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner is the longest and highest-capacity member of United's Dreamliner family — 21 aircraft seating 318, about 5.5 m longer than the 787-9. It trades range for size: the 787-10 has the shortest range of the three Dreamliners, which makes it United's widebody workhorse on dense, high-demand routes rather than the longest ones.

United is doubling down on the type. In January 2026 it converted 56 of its 787-9 orders to 787-10s, with those larger jets arriving from 2028 to backfill retiring Boeing 777-200ERs. All are powered by GE GEnx-1B engines.

WiFi & In-Flight Entertainment

All 21 have Ku-band satellite WiFi, seat-back AVOD plus personal-device entertainment, and 110V AC power. United is bringing free Starlink WiFi to its entire widebody fleet by summer 2027, a rollout that began with a Boeing 777 in June 2026, so the 787-10 is in line for a retrofit. Starlink is free for MileagePlus members.

Routes & Hubs

The 787-10 is a high-capacity people-mover for dense routes: transatlantic service from Newark (EWR) and Chicago (ORD) to Europe, ORD–Tokyo, and premium transcontinental flying. Its shorter range keeps it off United's longest sectors, which fall to the 787-9.

Related Dreamliners

787-9 (48) is the core, longer-range variant and the only one with Polaris Studio. 787-8 (12) is the smallest.
