United Airlines A321neo
Overview
The Airbus A321neo is the newest narrowbody in United's fleet — 62 aircraft with deliveries continuing through 2026, arriving in United's 100th-anniversary year. It's the capacity replacement for the older A319 and A320, adding seats and range while burning 15–20% less fuel thanks to Pratt & Whitney PW1100G (GTF) engines.
Every A321neo rolls off the line with United's Signature Interior: 4K Panasonic seatback screens at every seat, Bluetooth audio, power at every seat, LED mood lighting and larger overhead bins — the most consistent cabin in the narrowbody fleet.
Seat Configuration
| Cabin | Seats | Layout | Pitch |
|---|---|---|---|
| First | 20 | 2-2 | 37–38" |
| Economy Plus | 57 | 3-3 | 34" |
| Economy | 123 | 3-3 | 30" |
WiFi & In-Flight Entertainment
Every A321neo pairs its Signature Interior — 4K seatback screens, Bluetooth audio and 110V power at every seat — with Viasat Ka-band WiFi today. United's free Starlink WiFi (free for MileagePlus members) is rolling out across the fleet, part of an upgrade that had equipped more than 425 aircraft by mid-2026 and targets about 1,000 by year-end.
The A321XLR — United's New Long-Range Single-Aisle
The Airbus A321XLR is the long-range member of the A321neo family, and United's first entered service in June 2026. It's the airline's first single-aisle jet to offer lie-flat United Polaris business suites (20) alongside Premium Plus (12), in a four-cabin, 150-seat layout — powered by the same Pratt & Whitney PW1100G family as the standard A321neo. These are United's new standard lie-flat Polaris suites, not the larger Polaris Studio that is exclusive to the Boeing 787-9.
United is using the A321XLR to replace the retiring Boeing 757-200 on long, thin routes and to open markets a single-aisle jet previously couldn't serve — early examples include Newark (EWR)–Edinburgh and Newark–Bogotá. About a dozen XLRs are expected in the fleet by the end of 2026, scaling through 2028.
Routes & Hubs
The standard A321neo flies domestic and medium-haul routes from every United hub — including Chicago (ORD), Denver (DEN), Houston (IAH) and Newark (EWR) — with the range for coast-to-coast and longer transcontinental flying. The long-range A321XLR extends the family to transatlantic and Latin American routes.
Related Aircraft
A319 (76) and A320 (68) are the older A320-family jets the A321neo is replacing.
